Privacy

There are no accounts, no tracking ads, and we only keep what's needed to show the Ducklingos' journeys.

What we collect when you add a sighting

• The photo you upload. We remove hidden photo data (including GPS location) before storing it.
• Where you found it (ship or place), your story, and the optional name you type in.
• What you're doing with the Ducklingo (rehid, traveling, or keeping). Only moderators see this.
• Where you're taking it next, and the nearest or most recent port, if you tell us.
• A one-way scrambled fingerprint of your network address, used only to stop spam and repeated code guessing. We don't store your IP address itself.

What becomes public

Only sightings approved by a moderator are shown, and only the photo, location, story, name (if given), next destination (if given) and date. Pending and rejected sightings are never shown publicly.

Moderators may publish a sighting with changes: hiding or replacing the photo with the Ducklingo's artwork, shortening or editing the story, or hiding the name. What you originally sent is kept privately for moderation and is never shown publicly once edited.

When a sighting is submitted, the flock keepers may receive an email alert (sent through our email provider, Resend) with the Ducklingo, the general location and a link to review it — not your photo, story or name.

The flock map

The map shows each Ducklingo's most recent approved sighting at an approximate, town-level position worked out from the place or port you typed — never from GPS, and never an exact spot. For sightings at sea it's placed offshore from the port you mention. Map images are loaded from OpenFreeMap, which (like any image host) sees your IP address when the map loads.

Follow the flock updates

If you choose to follow the flock, we store your email address, when you signed up, whether you're subscribed, and a private unsubscribe code. We use it only to send a welcome email and occasional updates when a new sighting is added — never to sell, share or advertise.

To deliver those emails, your address is also kept by our email provider, Resend, on a single “Follow the flock” list. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately in both places. Update emails contain only what's already public on this site.

Feedback

If you send us feedback, we keep what you write, the page it was about, and — only if you give them — your name and email address. Feedback is private: only the flock keepers can read it, and your email is used only if we need to get back to you about your note. It's never added to a mailing list.

Cookies

When you enter a Ducklingo's sighting code we set one short-lived cookie (30 minutes) that lets you submit a sighting for that Ducklingo. If the site uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots, Cloudflare may process limited technical data to perform that check.

Removing a sighting

If you'd like a sighting you submitted removed, contact the flock keepers with the Ducklingo ID, date and location, and we'll take it down.
